St Margaret’s Underriver and UVA invite you to join The Canterbury Trails; a sponsored activity to complete 45 miles (72.5 km), the distance from Underriver to Canterbury between Saturday 14th May – Sunday 3rd July 2022.

Libby Notley, a Mental Health Resource Trainer, passed away in May 2021 after losing a short fight to a very aggressive cancer.

Libby, a keen walker, came up with the idea of covering the equivalent distance of one of the local long distance paths – the Pilgrims Way. She wanted to give people the option to cover the distance however they felt most comfortable and, to give people the option to complete it individually or, if a distance of 45 miles felt too much of a challenge, as part of a team. The event will now go forward on the anniversary of her death.

The challenge will be launched on Saturday 14th May and will close on Sunday 3rd July and will cover a wide a range of interests and capabilities. You can take part as an individual or as a team; complete the distance (or more!) in a day, a weekend or over the course of six weeks. And please do not feel limited to covering just the 45 miles to Canterbury! It is after all a fundraiser.

For those who would prefer to take part in the event and enjoy the social aspects and follow a route as opposed to striking out on their own, we intend to offer a series of circular walking routes, of varying difficulties, starting out from the Underriver village hall. We will also provide options for running and cycling (with support vehicles).

As a part of the launch, there will be a Community Launch Brunch on Saturday 14th May, 9am in the Village Hall, so come and join us to start your challenge:

Breakfast sandwiches will be available, covering a range of dietary requirements, together with tea & coffee and juice. The hall will stay open for the day for refreshments, rest, and chat!

If you would rather just come and provide moral support, do please come along to the Village Hall on the day.
