Mental Health statistics
Mental Health issues are receiving more attention and thankfully, people are becoming more open to discussing it. The following facts show how important it is that people with mental health issues are properly supported:
• 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England.
• 20% of adolescents may experience a mental health problem in any given year.
• 1 in 5 people have suicidal thoughts with 1 in 15 actually attempting suicide.
• 10% of children and people aged 5-16 years have a clinically diagnosable mental problem

My involvement with Mental Health Resource

Mental Health Resource is a Kent based charity which supports people who have complex and enduring mental health conditions. The charity has been around for almost 30 years and has helped thousands of people since its inception.

I was proud to join Mental Health Resource as a Board trustee in February 2021 and was immediately struck by the passion and commitment of the team in improving the lives of people with mental health conditions. The charity provides a range of services including a wellbeing centre (the Hub) , Reachout and Reachout Youth, which provide group sessions where people have a safe space to talk and meet others with similar challenges.

Sadly with the Covid pandemic and now rising living costs, the number of people suffering mental health conditions has increased and is likely to increase further as people struggle with their household finances.

Our Fundraiser on 19th August

My son Tom and I recently decided to throw ourselves out of an aeroplane attached to someone else and a parachute.
Rather than risk our lives for no reason, we wanted to see if we could raise some cash for Mental Health Resource, so have set up the fundraising page. We’d be grateful for any donations.

If you have had a mental health problem or know someone who has had one, then you will realise why this is important. If you don’t know anyone who has had a mental health problem then they have probably just not told you……

The countdown has begun!
